June 28: Colorado; HE DOES IT!!! 5 Hits 3002 Career Total

He did it. He accomplished the milestone that he has chased for 20 years. He accomplished the feat with the same team. And he tied the game to boot with his 3000th hit.

Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio went 5 for 6 and collected his 2998th, 2999th, 3000th, 3001th, and 3002th career hits against the Colorado Rockies.

The Astros beat the Rockies 8-5 on a grand slam home run by "El Caballo" Carlos Lee in the bottom of the 11th inning.

As we have said before. This is how he did it:

1st inning: GROUNDS OUT (facing right handed pitcher Aaron Cook, 4-5, 4.70 ERA)
1: ball
2: grounds out on a throw from third baseman Garrett Atkins to first basemen Todd Helton.
Current batting average: .238

3rd inning: SINGLE (still facing Cook) Career hit number 2998
1: ball
2: called strike
3: foul
4: ball
5: singles on a line drive to center fielder Willy Taveras
Current batting average: .241

5th inning: SINGLE (still facing Cook) Career hit number 2999
1: called strike
2: singles on a ground ball to third baseman Garrett Atkins
Current batting average: .243

7th inning: SINGLE (still facing Cook) Career hit number 3000
1: ball
2: ball
3: singles on a line drive to center fielder Willy Taveras, thrown out at he attempted for extra bases on a throw from Willy Taveras to shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.
Current batting average: .245

Note #1: with Biggio getting his 3000th hit, he ties Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente on the all time hit list. He is the 27th player to achieve 3000 hits and the seventh player to do it with the same team.

9th inning: SINGLE (facing right handed pitcher Manny Corpas, 2-2, 2.77 ERA) Career hit number 3001.

Note #2: He now moved to number 26 on the all time hit list, passing Clemente. Next on the list: Al Kaline with 3007.
